City Inspired Signature Cocktails

Most couples select unique wedding venues based on past experiences they've had their with their significant other. For example, if a couple met at a bar in New York City, they might decide to host their wedding in the Big Apple to signify where sparks originally flew. Since a city wedding is typically more modern and chic than garden wedding venues, couples might what to consider having a signature drink at their fete to infuse the cool atmosphere. Huffington Post Weddings recently listed the best signature drinks that fit with the top cities around the country.
New York’s own Maple Manhattan
This drink is a fresh take on an old classic. It pairs a typical Manhattan with a sweet kick of maple syrup that is sure to entice your guests. To recreate this tasty drink combine 2 1/2 ounces of bourbon, 1/2 ounce of maple syrup, a dash of sweet vermouth and ice in a cocktail mixer. Next, strain the liquid and pour it into a glass – garnish with a single cherry.
The Los Angeles Lindbergh
If your impending nuptials are taking place in Los Angeles, then this sweet and spicy yellow beverage may be the perfect drink to allow guests to wet their whistles. For this delicious and eye-catching cocktail you’ll need to mix together 1 1/2 ounces of rye, 1 ounce of simple syrup and 1 ounce of lemon juice in a cocktail shaker, mixing for about 30 seconds. When the ingredients are combined, pour the mixture into an old-fashioned or retro-style glass filled with ice and then top it off with 1/2 an ounce of maraschino liqueur.
Aspen’s Silver Lining
This fresh and perfectly peach beverage is an ode to Aspen’s mining heritage.
“Aspen used to be a mining town, so we garnished this festive vodka cocktail with an edible silver leaf for extra sparkle!” a Aspen bartender told the publication.
To serve up these cocktails at your wedding, you’ll need to fill a cocktail shaker with ice and then add 1 1/2 ounces of vodka, 1 ounce of Cointreau, 1/2 ounce of Benedictine, 1 ounce of blood orange puree and 1/2 ounce of lemon juice. Cover and shake until the contents are chilled, then strain into a martini glass and garnish with a festive edible silver leaf.

Southern Living magazine reports couples can still have fun with signature drinks even if their weddings aren't in a city setting. The experts suggest including a sparkling punch into the cocktail hour for a more laid-back or country-style affair.

Earth Day - Earth Friendly Wedding

Planning a socially- and environmentally-friendly wedding is a nice idea, but you've got enough to think about while putting together your big day…right? Actually, it’s never been easier to create a beautiful and Eco-friendly wedding. Here’s how:

SWITCH OUT YOUR TRANSPORTATION

Make an emissions-free statement by leaving your reception in a gas-free ride. If your wedding is outdoors, consider exiting in a horse-drawn carriage. Or, if you’re getting married near the water, jump in a boat and ride away on the waves—eco-friendly and incredibly romantic.

SHARE YOUR FLOWERS AND FOOD

Let your special day live on a little longer by sharing it with people in need. Rather than toss all your still-gorgeous flower arrangements, donate them to a local hospital or convalescent home. The same goes for any leftover food—most soup kitchens and homeless shelters can arrange to have someone swing by your reception to pick up unused refreshments.

THINK ORGANIC

Look for a florist that offers pesticide-free flowers, which are just as beautiful as their chemically treated counterparts but far better for the environment. Or consider using a local vendor for seasonal blooms to cut down on transportation costs and fuel emissions. To go even greener with your greenery, choose a reusable centerpiece. Small trees or potted plants can become a beautiful and meaningful part of your garden or home decor after the big day.

SELECT A WORTHY VENUE

Consider having your wedding in a local garden, museum or historic building. These are often run by socially conscious nonprofits, so your rental fee will support a good cause. Make sure to discuss where your rental fee will go; hopefully, at least a part will be put toward new programs and facility upkeep.

PICK NATURAL FABRICS

Avoid dressing your wedding party in fabrics that require dry-cleaning—the harsh chemicals used in the process are tough on the environment. Look instead for natural materials like linen or cotton, which are kinder on the environment and more comfortable for your bridesmaids and groomsmen.

Color Palette Tuesday: Purple & Teal

Here is a pretty little color palette that is perfect for a spring or summer wedding. It also has a vintage vibe to it and reminds me a bit of the 50s era. When I was originally searching for photos for today’s inspiration board, I was shooting for lavender, plum, & teal… and it ended up morphing in to this instead. I love the bright pops of pink/fuchsia against the light aqua backdrop. Yum!
